The Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena is a federal and state government-funded research institute and member of the Leibniz Association (Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz e.V.). FLI’ s internationally visible and highly competitive research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of aging and associated age-related diseases. Scientists from over 40 countries are currently investigating the molecular mechanisms of aging and the occurrence of age-related diseases. Our aim is to create the basis for new approaches in medicine as a way to improve the health of the elderly (www.leibniz-fli.de).

The Junior group of Dr. Alessandro Ori is looking for a Research Assistant/Technician (m/f/d) within the scope of a project funded by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) – Neurodegeneration Challenge Network aimed at generating models of human neurodegenerative disorders in killifish (Nothobranchius furzeri). 

Research Assistant / Technician (m/f/d)

The CZI project is planned for 12 months starting as soon as possible and the position can be filled as Research Assistant / Wissenschaftliche Hilfkraft mit Abschluß (m/f/d) with 47,5% part time (86 hours a month) or Technician (m/f/d) part- or full time (20 to 40 hours a week).

Main tasks within the Project:

  • Experimental project support, planning, execution and documentation of methods
  • Primary cell culture maintenance and transfection
  • Cloning and plasmid preparation
  • Microinjection of killifish embryos
  • Genotyping
  • Recording projects in electronic lab management systems.

    Requirement:

    • A completed training or at least a Bachelor degree in in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or related discipline
    • Ability to actively and professionally interact with a culturally diverse environment
    • FELASA qualification to work with animals would be an advantage
    • Previous experience with killifish embryo manipulation is not a pre-requisite
    • Good oral and written communication skills in English

    We offer:

    • A contract which is limited for maximum 1 year according to the project tasks.
    • As a Research Assistant / Wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft mit Abschluß the guidelines of the TdL (Richtlinien der TdL für die Arbeitsverträge der Wissenschaftlichen Hilfskräfte) apply for the contract, limited for the project.
    • As a Technician / Technischer Assistent (m/f/d) the contract conditions will be according to the collective labor agreement for public service employees of the Federal States (TV-L), fulltime / parttime, limited for the project
